The UnLimited research team used the second half of 2023 for intensive lithium extraction tests at the Bruchsal geothermal site (URG). Under the site-specific temperature and pressure conditions, it was shown that the extraction of lithium using the DLE process is technically possible.
The extraction tests were carried out in a pilot plant specially designed by the UnLimited partners. The DLE unit is connected to the geothermal brine circuit via a bypass system, thus enabling tests to be carried out under site conditions (T = 60 °C, p = 20 bar). The results are an integral part of a lifecycle assessment that optimizes and holistically evaluates the sustainable and environmentally friendly use of sorbents for lithium production.
